Catherine Jonasson

President and Principal

Catherine Jonasson founded StudioLab in 2006. Prior to opening StudioLab, Catherine was Vice President and Managing Director at Bruce Mau Design (BMD) for 10 years. In addition to managing all studio operations, she led all large-scale identity and programming projects: for cities such as Guatemala and New Orleans; for universities and hospitals, such as University of Toronto and Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto; and for urban spaces such as Downsview Park, a 320-acre urban national park in Toronto. She also managed BMD's collaborative work with Gehry Partners on the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Ray and Maria Stata Centre at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. Additionally, she worked with two major sports organizations - the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Jets - in developing new facilities and communications strategies.

Before joining Bruce Mau Design, Catherine was Head of Programming and Curator of Film and Video at the Art Gallery of Ontario. As Head of Programming, Cathy directed the Gallery art school as well as more than 40 staff who developed and delivered all lectures, concerts, films and performances. As Curator of Film and Video, she produced over 70 film series, produced and edited seven catalogues on experimental film, and built a collection of film and video for the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Catherine graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. in Fine Arts and a master's degree in Drama (specialty: film). She currently serves on the Advisory Board of Cinemathèque Ontario/Toronto International Festival of Festivals and Skyworks Foundation.
